My wife brought a few pieces of Little Austria’s from a farmer’s market in the Mosaic District (Fairfax, VA). We enjoyed it so much, we ordered a whole strudel to take to a dinner at friend’s’ house.

The owner Berni is Austrian, and he texted me to confirm when my order was ready as scheduled. I drove 20 miles to pick it up! 🙂

The bakery is in an industrial area of Sterling, tucked between warehouses. Inside, it’s a neat little bakery where they mostly prepare the strudels to sell at so many farmers markets in the DMV area, and also frozen ones to sell online.

Look up their schedule on their website, and if they’re selling at a market near you, go get some! You’ll only regret not getting more.

The. Best. Apple. Strudel. Ever. Fresh. Not overly sweet. Freezes well for those fans who are not close for the regular pick up. Great friendly service. I am usually not a desert person, but I am happy to make an exception for Little Austria! Danke schon!

They have THE BEST strudel in town. Light, fluffy, full of flavors, not overly sweet, and delicious treat. We get them often, it's been on the dessert menu for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and special requests for birthdays instead of cakes. Absolutely the best. Have not had any fillings that were not made to perfection. Warm it a bit and have it with some vanilla ice cream... dreamy...

Just found out about Little Austria while on the search for local bakeries to support, and wow, I'm glad I've stumbled upon this gem!

Tucked away in office/industrial complex near Rt. 7, Little Austria is unassuming. In the current stay-at-home conditions, online or telephone orders are the only way to go, but they still deliver big on strudels and friendly service. I ordered a large box (two full strudels), and the online process was straightforward, no fuss. I appreciated the quick coordination for order pickup and the personal greeting when picking up my order.

With 10+ flavor combinations to choose from, it's tough to decide! I went for the cheese & blueberry and the apple, walnut, raisin. The cheese & blueberry is perfectly sweet (aka not overly) and has a great bite with the soft cheese and blueberry mix. The apple, walnut, raisin is also amazing, with layers of cinnamon-y sugared apples, nuts, and raisin strewn throughout - also not overly sweet. Top these with some ice cream or whipped creme, and you're on your way to bliss.

The owners take pride in their business and product, and that reflects in the pastries and customer experience. Definitely ordering again and spreading the word about Little Austria!

I have been here before and it was great. I stopped by again but this time we couldn’t eat the strudel. My daughter went to warm them up and found a hair hanging out a piece which was thrown away. She warmed up the rest and then I cut into my piece and another hair was found. This looks like hair that would not be found on your head. Maybe armpit or other hair. Won’t be back to this place now.

I had a wonderful experience working with Berni and Little Austria. We used them for our firm Christmas bags last year, and everyone enjoyed the well-made product.

I was visiting from Michigan. I bought some strudel at the Reston Farmers market. It was the best strudel I’ve ever had including t some I had from Germany. I looked them up online and purchased some directly from the Little Austria store. Berni hand delivered it to my car and chatted a while. He said they delivered all over the country. Will be ordering some for the holidays!

It's really hard to find good strudel but Little Austria has simplified the quest. It helps that the husband-and-wife founders are both Austrian, so they know what strudel should taste like -- flaky fine dough, quality chopped apples, a few walnuts, cinnamon, sweet but not cloyingly sweet. That's what you'll find here. It's almost as if there were an army of Austrian aunties rolling out dough in gemütlich Tyrolean kitchens instead of in Sterling, VA. The cost of a strudel here beats a plane ticket to Vienna, and the taste is just the same. Wunderbar!
