Fantastic empanadas. I had a box with cheese, chicken, and pork empanadas and extra items that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Everything in that box was great, coffee is great too and there's lots of seating available.

The atmosphere is always lovely everytime you come in, and the pandebonos have improved in consistency and taste. They're so cheesy and delicious and pair well with the fruit juices that they sell now which is an authentic addition. However I'm not too sure about the coffee, a few months ago we came in and ordered a latte and found the coffee beans to be burnt and recently we came in again and had the same problem. Aside from that we love the staff at Mecatos, they always greet you with a smile and their service is always top notch.

DELIGHTFUL spot. Stop by for a coffee and a pastry or a full on meal. I stopped for coffee and lunch (cheese empanadas) and left happy and satisfied. The empanada had a delicious every so slightly sweet outer shell. Sooooo delicious. They have a cheese empanada and I think one other veg option

There is outside covered seating. Inside folks were having lunch but some people were solo working on their computers. Order at the counter and everything is brought to your table.

I am looking forward to returning!!! I was so full after my empanadas, I had no room for the amazing looking desserts/sweets.

The bakery is so much more spacious inside than it looks from the outside. It’s a good place to meet up with friends. I saw people working there as well. There’s a good variety of pastries to choose from. What I like about the empanadas and beef stuffed yucas was that they are just right - not too salty like some empanadas I’ve had from restaurants. The sausage was yummy. The desserts are nice though I wish they were a little less sweet. They would be very delicious if they were less sweet, in my opinion. That would enable me to consume more as well. Service was attentive and friendly.

Nothing like your first visit to a place (personally, my wife has gone a number of times) and while the person taking my order was helpful with trying to figure out what I wanted to order because I don't know how to pronounce the item, seeing them drop a pair of tongs on the ground and then place them on the counter next to the sink where someone else almost immediately took them and started to use them for another guest without cleaning them. I tried to tell her "they're using the tongs that just fell" and she said "yes I do it right now" and then moved onto something else entirely. Definitely a solid miss in the food and guest safety procedures today.

Updating my review to take what I've seen in the past to be great food down to what it was today. The croissant my wife had was essentially a pillowy loaf of bread that only slightly resembled a croissant. Was not the flakey expectation she's come to expect. Also my "aprea stuffed with 2 scrambled eggs, cheese, onions, and tomatoes" shown in the picture was anything but what was described. I got a quarter piece (not sure if I was supposed to get a whole one or a half) but it wasn't stuffed and definitely wasn't worth the $10+ cost or the 30 minute wait. Just overall today was a bad day for Mecatos despite it appearing that they had a full staff and plenty of ability to succeed.

Honest and not trying to be mean review.
The atmosphere is great, I loved it. Cozy and friendly.
Service was great too.
Now let’s talk about the food. We’ve tried a lot of items from their menu, it was our first time there so we wanted to sample as much as possible.
The issue we had with the food is, first of all, everything is either deep fried or drowned in oil. If you like this kind of food then you will love it!
Me, particularly find it to be nauseating to eat too much oil in every food item I’m eating.
My husband felt the need to use the restroom right after and he blamed it on the oil.
And yes, of course fried fios is good tasting , but due to my sensitive stomach I couldn’t eat all.
Now for the sweets part, we tried 3 pastries.
The coconut pie, Nutella and chocolate cakes. I couldn’t finish either of those, it is super sweet. Like extremely.
And I have a big sweet tooth but it was just too much for me to handle lol
It was an overall good experience however I don’t see myself and my family coming back soon.
We spent $34 dollars and we got 3 pastries, 1 pan de bono, 1 beef empanada, 1 pan de pollo, 1 cheese ball (?), 1 pan de queso and coffe. The coffe was exceptional!!!!

I had a spectacular meal today at Mecatos Cafe! The service was great and the atmosphere was incredible.

I shopped for a variety of pastries and no disappointments. Each delicious in flavor and texture. Looking fwd to the next opportunity to return.
